  • Premier Pro and AMD Radeon HD 6750M Problems?

Posted by Kris Merkel on September 26, 2011 at 5:38 pm

Is anyone having problems using the AMD Radeon HD 6750M on the newer macbook pro’s with premier pro? I know it is not in the min system requirements but I have just installed CS5.5 on my new mac running 10.7.1 and I keep running into an error that says:

“Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to Shut down”

I am also unable to install the 5.5.1 updates

    My new CPU is:

    MBP 15″ 2.2 quad i7
    8gb Ram
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1gb VRAM
    CS 5.5
    FCS 3

The computer also had me update the Nvidia CUDA driver even though I am not using the Geforce card.

I am on the phone with support now and have been for the last hour and a half. I am hopong someone else has seen this and has a solution….

How do you know it’s directly related to your video card? Are you running it successfully on another laptop or desktop running OSX Lion?

Also, what is the error it gave you when you tried to update? Does the updater app crash or does it have some kind of other behavior?

Have you tried installing the 5.5.1 update manually? It can be downloaded from https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=98&platform=Macintosh

I am sure it is not the video card now. I logged in as the “Root” user and was able to open new and existing projects and save without the error. And, as far as Adobe is concerned they have verified that their software is working perfectly , in the Root, so that is all the support I can get from them.

When I try to do the update manually i get this error:

    “Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 5.5.1
    Installation cancelled. Error Code: U44M2P24”

It has to do with something in my user profile.

When AE loads I get this error:

    “AE warning: Unknown exception”

I’m kind of at a loss at the moment and have a lot of troubleshooting to do

I was getting this error like crazy after updating to Lion.

Uninstalled. Repaired permissions on the drive. Reinstalled. All seems well for now.

I did uninstall and re-install however i did not repair the permissions. I’ll give that a try.

    thanks..

Went through the un and re install again, repaired permissions and still got the same resulting error. I might have to start all the way over from scratch. It’s a real head scratcher.

Did you do it in this order?

    1) uninstall, including all preferences.
    2) repair permissions
    3) re-install cs 5.5.
    4) update to cs 5.5.1

    Thanks John,

Still no luck, I did a HD restore last evening and did all my OS software updates and permission repairs. I am now attempting to install CS 5.5 however the Adobe application manager is hung on the Installation Progress screen with no movement.

Sorry you are still having trouble.

This seems very similar to my now resolved problem. I still think it’s related to permissions as Lion has changed the default permissions for certain folders in the system. Note that the User Library folder is now invisible by default. I think the program and the installer needs to have read/write access to something and doesn’t have it.

This is getting a bit over my pay grade…have you contacted Adobe support?
