You should read the section in the section in Media Composer help on using AMA with XDCAM.

Lion has something akin to an AutoSave vault, that works like Time Machine.
FCPX doesn’t support it yet…but likely will. Thats what that versioning means.Other apps like the iWork suite support it now and its very cool.

That is true. There is no drive currently sold that comes pre formatted in a way that can be read and written to on Windows and Mac (excluding FAT32, of course).
NTFS cannot be written to on Mac without additional software. HFS+ cannot be read/written on PC without additional software.
The ExFAT format can be read/written on recent OS’s on PC’s and Macs and has large file support. It requires no additional software. There are no drives that I know of that come pre-formatted using this relatively new drive format. You can easily reformat any drive to ExFAT using Disk Utility, if you are running Snow Leopard or later.

I have Paragon and tend to use NTFS, but have tried ExFAT a couple of times and its worked.

I suspect MC6 will see improvement with H264, as it will be a 64 bit app.
64 bit NLE’s like FCPX and Premiere Pro can edit it natively, if you have a fast system.

Does the sync problem resolve if you render the audio?

FCPX can read iMovie projects.
You might want to think about using that instead, if you are brave.

Sounds like you are looking at proxy footage and not the real footage. Post in the FCPX forum. Do not continue this thread here.

The frames it was processing when the crash occurred are likely corrupt, even if it manages to finish the encode.

The OP knew about the change (and copy/pasted it from the Release Notes) but did not understand what the change meant because he is unfamiliar with the trackless editing model in FCPX.
I tried to briefly explain the idea of storylines (admittedly oversimplifying it) and pointed out the change in 10.0.1 was the first refinement of the model. Maybe you can explain it a little better for him?
