I haven’t seen documentation about it…but in the past, sending directly to Compressor has always ignored render files and encoded directly to the target codec..which is why it generally takes longer than dragging a reference or self contained movie into Compressor

I had the same problem. Updating Paragon to 9.5 fixed it. Unfortunately,its a paid upgrade and not really even visible on their site. E-mail their tech support.

If you want your Avid to work properly you have to use a qualified system. This is the way it is done, and this is the way that you will do it.
However, if you insist on being a baby, and just want what you want, and just can’t understand why it takes SPENDING MONEY on PROPER EQUIPMENT to make a living in the editing business, please post your address, and I will be happy to fly to your location and strangle you.

Good God. Why the hell are you doing this? And where does square pixels enter into this? You do know that HDV does not use square pixels.. This workflow is a complete mess. No wonder it looks bad.
What is your intended final format? Is it 720p HD 23.98 fps?

Versions support is not there yet, but it appears from the “Current Version” files that it will be implemented at some point.

I learned it all on the job…reading forums like this one like a madman. Work as an assistant in a shop that does broadcast and finishing work. The standards tend to be more exacting than offline.
When I started , NLE’S were just beginning. Little of the technical stuff I learned in school has much relevance in my daily workflow now (except for knowing how to read and use scopes).

If you have Premiere Pro, it actually plays it pretty well. As does FCPX.
I just went through this with a large Avid project. Just needed to screen and make selects, as there’s were many hours recorded. couldn’t transcode it all. FCP 7 and Avid (via AMA) couldn’t do it without instability.
A 64 bit app does the trick.

What is the frame size of your footage?
Is it HDV sized (1440 x 1080) or normal HD sized (1920 x 1080)? Sometimes Pro Res at 1440 can be problematic.

What is an “FCP QuickTime”?
Try transcoding to Apple ProRes 422… or is that what you meant?

Pro Res is 10 bit, so I would actually go with 175X, as its the only one of the three that is 10 bit.
