I know this is a commonly asked question..

But I am going to keep it short and simple for you Pros’ out there.

    —————————————————————
I have a MacBook Pro. I am running on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8

PROCESSOR: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    MEMORY: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    STARTUP DISK: Macintosh HD
    —————————————————————

I was editting in FCP7 and everything was fine until I messed with the settings. I shot footage with my GOPRO and the clips in the browser that I imported, everytime I try to view the clips they skip and lag.

The movie plays fine though in the timeline. Is there any hope?

Based upon your screenshots you’ve got loads of issues; primary among them is that you’re trying to edit h.264, which is not an editing codec in FCP. You’ll have to transcode all of that material to ProRes before editing. There are a zillion posts on the subject of transcoding h.264, so you’ll have to do a search to see how that’s done with Compressor or MPEG Streamclip.

This is mention a million times a day. h.264 is not an editing codec for FCP 7. Transcode your clips to ProRes before you edit inside FCP. That should solve your problem.

    Convert your mp3’s to 16 bit 48k.

Although not supported, you can CUT GoPro stuff on FC without problem and even applying some basic filters, but don’t try to go further.
To export, set the sequence to Prores, AND check Render in YUV.
I don’t know why GoPro stuff asks for RGB rendering.

Actually, I’m going to disagree with Rafa on this one. While you can cut very limited amounts of h.264 on the timeline, anything over just a minute or two will make all kinds of things crap out in FCP. Hence the Out of Memory error message that is the subject of this thread.

Gotta agree with David. Even if you can cut some H.264, if you push your system enough it’s going to crash. And then you risk corrupting your footage or your system files.

And I don’t gonna disagree with David and Scott.
The GoPro sequences I’ve processed were no longer than a minute, but, believe me, I’ve been able to run NeatVideo on top (Prores sequence/High Precision) with no problems.
They were just test. If I had to do something longer, I’d transcode.
