Shane unless the film really takes off these will be the masters. I want as much quality as my Mac Pro can handle. My machine is a Mac Pro OS X 10.5.6 2×3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, Memory: 8GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, 3 terabytes RAID, 2.73TB available. Still think HQ?

I believe 1080p 16×9, double checking this with the lab now.
Telecine was done onto HDcamSRs flash to flash. The picture is already edited in standard def. Will not be editing HD footage but conforming it and color correcting. Will be burning DVDs for festivals for now but ultimately will master on HDcamSR and will possibly make a print if the film takes off.
The film looks gorgeous on standard def cause it was shot on 35. Curious how much better it will look on HD. Will know tomorrow. -
Using FCP not Avid.
I was told ProRes as well. How sure are you that I need ProRes 422 HQ?
This is a world class lab they can provide that. -

Moral of the story – just call your lab, they know. -

August 3, 2010 at 3:53 am in reply to: EDL list for HD telecine doesn’t show film roll infoI guess the original post was too long.
All I’m asking is how come the EDL list I’m creating from fcp is not showing lab roll info??

oh nice i’ll miss my electronic buddy.

i did all of that and now my 3 day syncing nightmare is over.
but your settings produced a new nightmare: interlaced footage 🙁
It doesn’t look interlaced all the time just every few seconds here and there. I’m watching it on a 46” plasma. Other than that looks fantastic.

thanks for the reply!
35mm -> lab -> telecine -> dvcam offline master -> dvcam deck -> captured into fcp. Planning on doing a film out later so cutting at 24.
everything was captured the right way because i had a top pro assistant do it and supervise it. Now that i’m on my own it’s a little trickier.
both audio and video were on the dvcam tapes. so both were coming from the same source.
i think the problem was that i was incorrectly told that all DVDs play at 30 [or 29.whaterver], and once i changed the settings in compressor to 23.98 the sync issue i think is gone but hard to tell. I’m gonna burn a larger section and see. But now for some reason the fcp and compressor keep crashing all the time, very strange as i have a top of the line mac pro.
Anyhow the out of sync issue stays consistent and when the dvd is in 23.98 it is off by a few frames, i think. It’s very hard to tell it’s off but if you look very closely it’s off.
