Thank you guys! Ok, first I tried Jeff’s idea, and it exported fine, but Handbrake won’t read ref files. That would be a nice addition in a future build! Then I tried the mixdown to one track and that worked great! I still don’t know why Avid gives weird errors like that for no apparent reason. What if I was editing Dances with Wolves with multiple audio streams? Yeesh!

    Thanks again!

No that won’t work like that. I just need to flip the image right side up, no sync sound to it.

It may be summing the signal playing back from the timeline. If I put a mixer in line before the BOB I start having latency issues and sync probs. I tried using the Avid Audio Mixer and lowered the volume of the entire track just a bit and it took the overmodding out so it’s something digital going on, or it’s summing on playback and thus not really overmodding. Strange problem, but somewhat resolved! Thanks!

  • Hi Jeff,
So being that Avid MC still uses AVI 1.0 thus you can export anything over 2 gigs, I’ll go with the export to Quicktime Movie and NOT use the avid codec. I’ve imported stuff I’ve exported that way and laid it in the timeline under the original, then toggled the monitor back and forth between video tracks and stuff does look exactly the same as the original.

If you think that Quicktime Movie export is the way to go, I’ll go ahead because I’m thinking that too is the only real future proof way to go.

    Thanks again!

I’ll be sending it to Bluray too. 🙂

I don’t think there is a way to do it. I’ve been using it for a couple years now too.

I think it might be an issue in the menu of that camera. I’ve had weird issues with Sony XDCAM cameras like that where it would mix my return and not put channel 1 on left and channel 2 on my right side for some reason. We tried and tried to figure it out.

You shouldn’t need another blasted external box to do this. Try looking in that menu next time you work with one. There are some hidden menus too sometimes you have to dig down into. Lemme know if you figure it out and I’ll do the same thing next time! 🙂

    Good luck!

  • Thanks a bunch Jeff! My next question would be, how is the best way to make those huge files span DVD-R disks? I know you can do it with WinRAR, but if there’s a better way, I’m all ears. 🙂

  • It also could be the auto gain some of those cameras have. The 5D is really bad about the auto gain and there is no way that I know of to turn it off. Adobe Audition should be able to get some of the hiss out in post, but it’s still a pain. You might have to get a Zoom H4N and record sound to that. I love mine and it’s clean as a whistle.

  • Hi Todd,

Yes you can see it clearly from in front of the camera and you have to zoom past it to get it out of view, otherwise it looks like a smudge as you can imagine. They way I figure, if I could just open things up enough to blow air down in there good, I can’t really shoot with it anyhow the way it is. It’s more or less just a deck at this point.

I’ve spoken to a camera tech and they advised not worth the money. I just figured since I found a site with photos of how to take the front element off, there might be someone out there who’s gone farther up in there.

  • Could be the Azden doing it. You’d have to try plugging a couple different mics into it to see if it in fact is your mic causing the prob. If not, it could be something in the jack itself, or the cable going from mic to camera. There are a lot of possibilities.
