  • Overmodulated audio capturing analog video?

    Hi,

I’m using MC and an ADS Pyro A/V BOB capturing old VHS tapes. Is there any way possible to lower the incoming audio signal volume going into MC? Levels look way too hot even though I’m using a Panasonic AG-1980 so it shouldn’t be boosting the levels.

It sounds overmodulated too when played back on the timeline, yet the audio coming straight out of the VCR outputs sounds fine when headphones are plugged directly into them.

    Any ideas?

Perhaps you are digitizing 2 channels and play back a mono sum of the both?
Try muting one of the channels, or pan L R.

Also, watch the levels. There are sound level meters…
If they go too high, do get some form of attenuating the signal before it reaches your BOB.

It may be summing the signal playing back from the timeline. If I put a mixer in line before the BOB I start having latency issues and sync probs. I tried using the Avid Audio Mixer and lowered the volume of the entire track just a bit and it took the overmodding out so it’s something digital going on, or it’s summing on playback and thus not really overmodding. Strange problem, but somewhat resolved! Thanks!
