It’s not an easy thing to do. You can try the pop filter in FCP, but it’s just basically a low cut eq – nothing fancy. That thump is somewhere below 60 Hz, but there may be harmonics of the base frequency mixed in that also need to be filtered. A program that will certainly handle this is IzotopeRX.

MPEG Streamclip is a wonderful program, but I’m not sure it’s the best way to transcode your 7D footage. Canon has a FCP plugin that does it as does Red Giant’s Grinder. ProRes is best. It will work very smoothly with FCP. You haven’t described your edit system so it will be hard for folks to help you. What computer, OS, version FCP, drives, etc? Many things can affect your ability to edit smoothly. And make sure your sequence settings exactly match your clip’s parameters. I’m afraid editing video will become more complicated as time goes on. There are so many formats and codecs it’s hard to keep up. But if you do this for a living, you have to find a way.

Highlight the effect in the timeline then Sequence Menu > Render Only > Full. I’m not sure why this is necessary when the transition effect has no render line above it, but this often fixes this issue.

Depending on how far you are from shore, you may need high gain antennas for the wireless to be reliable. As Ty suggests, be sure to test this ship-to-shore in advance of your event.

If your QT doesn’t have embedded timecode you might be able to use Bouke Vahl’s free app to add or set the file’s timecode to match the burned code. If your ProRes file to come has the same code you might be able to reconnect successfully. Maybe Bouke will see this thread and chime in, or you can contact him thru his site.

The result is a Quicktime mov using the edit codec in your sequence. You can then use that file (in essence it’s your master) to make a file you can upload to YouTube, etc.

Set in and out points, File menu > Export > QuickTime Movie-Current Settings(not QT Conversion). Check Make Movie Self-Contained. That will make a file you can then use in Compressor (or other encoding Program) to make files for DVD, web, etc.
