Something else to consider… Make certain that AE’s frame rate is set to 23.976 – not 23.98. 23.98 is simply shorthand FCP uses for 23.976. The thing is – AE takes your input literally. Playing true 23.98 in a 23.98 FCP sequence (which actually wants to see 23.976) often stutters.

I believe that camera uses the H.264 codec which is not an FCP edit codec. Before you can edit you should turn those files into ProRes. You can use Compressor to do that, and there are 3rd party programs like Grinder that also do this. After the files are converted you simply Import them to your project. When you drag your first file to your sequence, FCP will ask if you want the sequence to take on the parameters of your clip. Answer OK and you should be good to go. You might want to watch Shane Ross’ tutorial on tapeless workflows.

There are a number of keyers that now work with Final Cut and other NLEs. And the Primatte keyer in Motion is good. Checkout the PHYX Keyer and the Keylight plugin for FCP. I’m still partial to Keylight in AfterFX since I have it. And for green screen magenta backlight reduces spill. Amber is for blue screen.

I believe that camera has AV connections, but you need a special cable (that should have come with the unit) that breaks out the audio and video connections. You should then be able to monitor the audio out while capturing. Look in your manual to confirm.

You don’t need HQ. Use ProRes 422 or even ProRes LT may be good enough. Use that setting for the timeline. Using a higher level of ProRes won’t improve video coming off an SD DVD. That’s why ProRes LT might work. If you have 2 separate channels of audio you can unlink them and delete the one you don’t need. If the VO & dialog are mixed then you can’t separate them.
