  • Stripping alpha from QT file

Posted by Patrice Freymond on September 25, 2010 at 6:25 pm

    Hi everyone,

after searching these forums and the web:

is there a way to obtain the alpha layer of a qt file so as to modify it? Basically, turning a qt file (animation codec, or prores 4444) into two separate files?

    thanks in advance

Exactly what I was looking for.

Did not think about using Motion for this.

    Thank you

Are you trying to export a matte layer from FCP? If so you can do that in FCP without going to Motion.

    All the best,

FC don’t have the export only Alpha option, but you can export a B & W matte to be used for Luma Matte in FC or interpreted as an Alpha Channel for AE, Motion, etc.
    – Put a black in Layer 1 and a white in Layer 3.
    – In Layer 2 set the picture with the Alpha Channel.
    – Set Layer 3 as “Travel Matte Alpha”.
Export in whatever codec you prefer.
