Only issue would be how you monitor the ProTools session. You need a Core Audio compliant I/O. My AJA IO is not core audio compliant. Check to see if your Kona is. Otherwise, you won’t be able to monitor the audio.

November 25, 2005 at 4:28 am in reply to: VOICE OVER TOOL HELL! PLEASE HELP!

I’m not in front of my computer so I can’t tell you this exactly. On the Voice Over tool dialog box there’s an offset setting where you can affect the sync. I’m not sure if it will deal with sound that is early and I don’t think the offset goes as high as 15 frames. But maybe it will help. What interface are you using to input your audio to the VO tool? A crude way of dealing with the issue is to select the tracks after laying them down and offset them manually 15 frames.

You are probably better off finding an audio studio in your area and using an hour of time to record your interview. Unless you’re in a big city, you can probably find rates of $50 to $100 per hour. That way you’ll get a professional recording and have it in whatever format you need: aiff, wav, DAT, etc.

Check out https://www.1212.com and Mandy at https://www.mandy.com/1/filmtvservices.cfm. There are other lists. Try googling audio studios, recording studios, etc.

Check out products from Edirol and M-Audio. They both have inexpensive boxes that will accept your mic’s XLR input and interface with your G5 using Firewire or USB. I don’t know if you’ll get enough level if you just plug your mic into the G5 using an adaptor that changes the XLR to mini-plug.

I just finished two DVD commentaries to picture using the Voice Over tool. It worked beautifully. I ran a DAT in the background as a backup. The VO tool is great because you can do various takes and it places them on different tracks in the timeline. Later you can go back and edit your final.

September 6, 2005 at 7:15 pm in reply to: Sound Soap on Windows XP

I use Soundsoap Pro on OSX as an audio units plug-in in Peak. I also think it’s a VST and RTAS plug-in. You can find out on their site, I’m sure. I don’t know if it works differently on Windows, but if Pro Tools can use Audio Units, RTAS or VST plug-ins, SS should work on Windows.

Check out the SoundSoap site https://www.bias-inc.com/products/soundsoap/

Amen to Nattress Standards Conversion plugins. I just went the other way from NTSC to PAL and the results were simply outstanding! On my G5 the export was about 5 and a half minutes for each minute of source.

Another thought is to get the positioning close (with locked down cam) and then morph from one shot to the next.

July 17, 2005 at 10:37 pm in reply to: What’s with Compressor?

Check your field dominance. The wrong setting can produce effects like you’re seeing. I’m still using Compressor 1.2.1, but I seem to remember that I had flickering until I changed the encoder setting to lower instead of automatically detect. For some reason it didn’t pick the correct setting on auto. I’m not in front of my computer, but I think those were the choices.
