It’s been a while since your post, but I ran into the case where certain monitor cables were wired in such a way that the pin that was used for turn on-shut down was connected incorrectly. These cables are used for PCs, etc. and didn’t take Apple requirements into consideration. The result is what you’re experiencing.

Checkout https://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html. This may allow you to convert from the dvd audio format to aiff. However, the recorded audio on the dvd is probably already compressed, so when you recompress to aiff, you may lose the aduio quality no matter what you do.

Okay, I’ve just installed Tiger on a second internal drive leaving OS 10.3.8 on the other. I’ve done a couple of rounds of system updates to bring Tiger current. TIger is the startup drive. I have two questions. Once they’re resolved, I’ll install new device drivers, firmware and FCP Studio 5.

I would like to migrate user data from the old system to the new (email & intenet accounts, address book, etc.). When I use the Migration Assistant it shows 7Gb of data to be migrated. This seem like a lot. Is there any way to know exactly what is being moved before doing it? I don’t want preferences, etc. that might interfere with the new FCP Studio 5 apps.

When I try to look at the drive that has OS 10.3.8 on it, the finder hangs up with the spinning wheel of death. Is this because Tiger doesn’t like looking at another system disk or is something messsed up?

If you zip a 10 Meg file it should shrink it to about 8.4 Megs. It’s not a lot, but if you need to deliver aiff or wav, I think it’s the best you can do.

The new Peak LE 5 ($59 upgrade from Peak Express V2, 3, or 4) allows you to change pitch without affecting duration or vice versa. It also has a number of special effects plugins.
