I’m finally updating to Tiger and FCP Studio 5. I’ll be doing an Erase and Install on a 2nd internal drive as recommended by many on the Cow. My question relates to the firmware/ROM updates for ATTO, ATI, AJA and Huge. Should these be done before or after the OS install? Also, what are your thoughts about using the Transfer Information function during the install.

I’d like the option of using FCP4.5 and OS 10.3.8 on my other internal drive as a backup in case I have issues with the new installation. Will the firmware updates cause any problems with the IO, etc. using the older system?

    Thanks,

    John

    Install OS

Run Software Update to update everything

    Install your new FCP Software

Run Software Update again to update everything in FCP

Launch FCP to ensure it launches correctly. Quit.

Go to all the websites of your hardware and update.

That’s the order I go in, though you could do all the hardware updates after the OS Install / Software update.

Okay, I’ve just installed Tiger on a second internal drive leaving OS 10.3.8 on the other. I’ve done a couple of rounds of system updates to bring Tiger current. TIger is the startup drive. I have two questions. Once they’re resolved, I’ll install new device drivers, firmware and FCP Studio 5.

I would like to migrate user data from the old system to the new (email & intenet accounts, address book, etc.). When I use the Migration Assistant it shows 7Gb of data to be migrated. This seem like a lot. Is there any way to know exactly what is being moved before doing it? I don’t want preferences, etc. that might interfere with the new FCP Studio 5 apps.

When I try to look at the drive that has OS 10.3.8 on it, the finder hangs up with the spinning wheel of death. Is this because Tiger doesn’t like looking at another system disk or is something messsed up?

    Thanks,

    John
