    We have a Pioneer DVR-310 that we’ve used for a few years. It does the job very nicely. You can adjust the bit rate and, therefore, the quality (and length) of the DVD. The only annoying thing about this unit is it doesn’t make auto starting DVDs. The user has to hit play or menu on their player.

    Michael is absolutely right. Your only hope (as mentioned above) is there’s another recording you can try to sync to the picture. This will probably be a time consuming process.

    Full body blue or green screen is a challenge. If you don’t have a waveform monitor I suggest you rent or buy one. If will show how even the light is on the background. If you have a straight line on the waveform, you key will be more consistent.

    That said, I think you’ll need more instruments to light the floor since your key and fill lights are probably washing out its color.

    As for keying with DV, search the Final Cut Pro forum for DV key and you’ll find a lot of information. There are some specific plug ins that will really help.

    What happens when you click the Scratch Disks button in the Capture Setting? Is it set to your RAID? If not, have you tried pointing it where you want it to go? I’ve never experienced FCP changing where it captures unless I change the destination.

    It sounds like the original sequence your long program was in had the incorrect settings. When a project is first started and you select Easy Setup, if that setup is different from the last setup used, the first sequence of the new project has the old project settings. Whenever you start a project it’s best to delete the sequence that opens first, and then make a new one that will have the correct settings.

    Is it possible that FCP is seeing two spanned clips as one? Have you tried importing all the files you can from a contents folder and seeing if all the footage is there?

    All the advice above is good. Another idea is to have a couple of line pads in your kit. These attenuate any signal by -10, -20 or -30db. This means you can leave you mixer at 0=+4, stick an attenuator after the mixer and your output is now -10 with a 0 reading on the mixer.

    Here’s an example of an attenuator I found at Markertek. I’m sure there are more out there.

    The color doesn’t look bad, it’s just that the overall feel is flat. IMO you need some more light on the subject, but without adding light to the background. You can punch things up with color correction in your editing app, but you’re always better off starting with the best possible lighting.

    I’d also suggest you get a decent monitor on the set. A camera’s LCD is not accurate enough to make critical judgements.
