Been having a wierd problem with capture now.

Whenever we try it, we get a message that says there is insufficient space on the capture scratch discs — This dispite the fact that we have the system fibre channel linked to an Apple Xserve Raid that has HUNDREDS OF GIGIBYTES available and SCCI channel linked to even more storage space! These drives always work, and work well whenever we set ins and outs on our regular workflow.

But occasionally I get a VHS or DVD from which I need to pull some footage that does not have device control, and so I can only capture using “capture now”

But It seems when using capture now, FCP is only looking for available space on a local HD.

Anyone else experience this, and knows how to fix it?

What happens when you click the Scratch Disks button in the Capture Setting? Is it set to your RAID? If not, have you tried pointing it where you want it to go? I’ve never experienced FCP changing where it captures unless I change the destination.

Yes, I have my scratch discs set to the Raid, Video and Audio capture, as well as to my two SCSI drives, Video and Audio.

As I indicated, they work as expected except when doing a Capture Now.

I suspect FCP, before doing a Capture Now is doing some sort of speed check to make sure the write speed is going to be fast enough to do a Capture now. In any event, its either not seeing or not liking the Fibre Channel or SCSI drives.

Only when I clear up enough space on a phsically connected HD (either my system drive, which I HATE to put video onto, or my “Projects Drive”) will it perform a Capture now, placing the footage onto one of those Drives, which I have to reconfigure as Scratch drives.
