You can use Raylight which reads the mxf data directly. You can instantly open the clips in fcp, add the timecode reader and play out to a DVD recorder in real time. I’ve also just exported the aufio, converted it to mp3 and sent that to the transcriber if t/c notes don’t matter.

The squeeze, letterbox and normal menu settings affect the component and composite video outs of our HPX500. It’s useful when monitoring with SD monitors.

January 24, 2008 at 2:21 am in reply to: Jam Sync HPX with HVX

The HPX500 can be gen-locked and jam inputed timecode. It can also send timecode that another recorder can jam. All the units need to be fed sync so the timecode locks. I don’t think the HVX200 has timecode and sync I/Os. I think they can only be synced using firewire.

January 23, 2008 at 4:37 pm in reply to: background muslin color?

    Ty,

We go with muslin painted randomly with dark and lighter grey. Grey will pick up the color of light hitting it so you can have different colors for different needs. We crinkle it to a degree to create areas of light and shadow. That way you can hit the backdrop with light from the sides and create a lot of texture. You have decent separation if you can have the talent 12 feet in front of the backdrop. You want to have a set of lights for the backdrop and another set for the talent. Dimmers are really helpful to create a balanced look. If you don’t have time to test all this out yourself, you might look into hiring a gaffer to help with the lighting. There are a lot of good ones in your area.

I’m not sure if you are saying you want a P2 Store. If you have a laptop, you’re better off using that to transfer your P2 cards to a hard drive (much less $$). You can transfer with Mac or PC laptops. We have a MPB and use a Duel adaptor which plugs into the Express Card slot. If you have an older Mac or PC laptop, P2s can plug directly into the PCMIA slot. You’ll need drivers from Panasonic . There’s a great program called P2 Genie that will off-load P2 cards easily and safely. I know it works with Macs, but I think there’s also a PC version. Panasonic has a program that works with PCs, too.

Explain a bit more about the effect you desire. Is it a plain solid background that drops away, a mottled or crinkled look or something else.

We have the remote control which allows us to easily paint the picture. However, the same controls are available in the menus. It’s just a whole lot harder and much more time consuming to make adjustments. If someone on your crew is not an experienced video engineer who can paint, it might be a good idea to hire one and then save all the settings on SD cards. Another thought is to contact Roger Macie https://www.macievideo.com/ in the Boston area who does this kind of work for most of the networks and many independents. He’ll balance your cameras and record the settings to SD cards.

January 9, 2008 at 10:49 pm in reply to: Two kits.. need some advice

Wattage = Volts x Amps so even at 110 vs 120 vac you draw a little under 10 amps per instrument. This means you can probably put two instruments on each 20 amp circuit. However, check your breakers. Depending on the age of the place, breakers could be 15 amps, in which case you can only put one light on each breaker.

It may be possible to do what you wish, but it is very complex and time consuming. Google Cedar Tools Retouch.
