I agree with Dave It’s much easier in Motion or AE. In fact, Motion has a couple of bounce behaviors.

In User Prefs > Editing, change the still/freeze duration to :01. I think that will do it.

Other than converting the file to another codec you can’t substantially shrink the file. And DV won’t play directly off a DVD. See if this helps you get Compressor working. https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888?viewlocale=en_US

Another thing you can try is Import the DV movie into DVD Studio Pro. DVDSP will encode it to a mv2. However, the quality won’t be as good as Compressor.

You’re right. The guy’s a still and masked. If there are a lot of this kind of scene, it might be simpler to do it on greenscreen than all that rotoscoping – unless you like doing that.

The Canopus ADVC110 is mentioned a lot. I don’t know if it does PAL. However, there are a number of SD I/O cards (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist.jsp&sku=286847&q=1&Q=add&is=REG&A=cart) that will offer better performance and not tie up your FW port for about the same price.

I agree you should always have equipment powered down before connecting. Even if the manufacturer says you can make hot connections, I don’t.

FCP doesn’t like very large/dense images. Reduce their size in Photoshop, or use Motion as you did, or AfterFX. If you want to stay with FCP, try rendering your jpg clip after inserting it in your timeline and adjusting keyframes, etc.

Try trashing prefs and repairing permissions. It’s what I do anytime FCP acts strangely. And, it never hurts to run Disk Warrior.
