    I think he means let the timecode contionue to free-run. Then you can change tape and when you go into record your timecode is the same as the other cameras.

    It would be a good idea to send the master sound to all cameras. That way the sound itself can help you sync if the t/c is off. You can easily hear when two (or three) sound tracks are in sync, and when they start to slip and have phasing start.

    I’m not sure I completely understand, but if you have four tracks of stacked video and want to see each track at the same time you size each to 50% (use the scale setting in the Motion tab) and position them in the Canvas (make sure image + wireframe is selected) so you can see all four. Of course, there’s no easy way to switch back and forth from the 4-way (in this example) to full-screen. You can move your edit choices to the top track and Remove Attributes on that clip and it will become full-screen. Then you won’t be able to view the clips under it unless you turn off the top video track. Then you’d see the remaining 3 tracks underneath.

    What’s the problem? Describe what’s happening. Also, we need more info about your system: what kind of Mac, what version FCP & QT, what kind of storage, how are you monitoring, etc.?

    Again, I’m unfamiliar with XDCAM. However, if you must transcode with software use Compressor. Make sure to turn Frame Controls on in the Frame Controls tab of the Inspector. Then choose Best for the 3 quality settings you’ll find there. Compressor will take a long while (probably) to do the cross-conversion, but the quality will be very good. Try a short clip to judge for yourself. It may also be possible to simply drag the clip into your ProRes seq and render there (again, with the highest quality settings in Seq Settings>Render Control). Search for transcoding, and other advice will probably pop up.

    If the footage is on tape and you have a Kona or other card that upconverts in real time let the card do the work for you. Otherwise, there are workflows using Compressor for file-based media, you can find by searching the Cow.

    MPEG Streamclip https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html might be able to convert the files to a useable QT codec. That would be time-consuming to do many files and might result in a degradation of quality as compared to a more direct input to FCP. Hopefully, someone with XDCAM experience will have an answer for you.
