FCP playback on your computer screen is just an approximation. To properly monitor you need an external monitor driven by an I/O card or box. You also need a fast external drive for your media, particularly, if your edit codec is HD. It’d help to know more about your system setup. That way folks can be more specific in their recommendations.

Click on your clip in the timeline. Hit CMD-L. You’ll notice that the underline in clip name that you see in the clip is now gone. Click anywhere outside the clip and both the video and audio are now un-selected. Click on just the A2 audio and copy it with CMD-C. Now click on A1 and Paste Attributes (OPT-V). A box will pop up. Check Content, Pan and Levels and OK. Select all three tracks (video, A1 and A2) and CMD-L and they’ll be linked again (and the clip name will be underlined again). That’s it.

Use Render Manager (Tools>Render Manager) to remove (delete) all your renders, then re-render. Hopefully, that will help.

Having to re-render is mostly a function of the power of your edit computer (and the codec you edit with). I can move images around in DVCProHD and get a green line, so I can play without re-rendering. You don’t mention what codec you’re using. If you were editing in 8-bit UC and switched to DVCPro50 you might not have to render as much.

Michael is right. If you have a monitor capable of showing widescreen it will. However, there might be a way to adjust the composite video out of the 200.

I don’t know the HVX200 well, but we own an HPX500 which has similar menus. On the 500 there is a menu that allows a choice of Normal (4×3), Squeeze or Letterbox which affects the composite video out. Check the Camera Setup menu in the 200 and see if you can change from Squeeze to Letterbox. Then record 720P and watch the output on your monitor. It should be letterboxed. What I don’t know is whether changing that setting affects the 720P recording. So check that to make sure it’s good. If so, problem solved. If not, you’ll need to get a widescreen capable monitor.

Very interesting. We’ve not tried gels as we’ve had good luck on stages with green backgrounds, but I’m going to try it next time and compare. We shoot DVCProHD720P – to P2 cards – and key with Keylight inside AfterFX (although, they’ve just introduced a FCP plugin). I don’t know if you’ve seen the AJA KiPRO. https://www.aja.com/products/ki-pro/ It’s a field recorder that records ProRes and up/down/cross-converts in real time.

We have an HPX500 which is excellent for keying. We’ve successfully used it for that many times. I’d go for the 300. You get a ton of features for the $.
