    If the footage is on tape and you have a Kona or other card that upconverts in real time let the card do the work for you. Otherwise, there are workflows using Compressor for file-based media, you can find by searching the Cow.

    You should be able to just drop the 720P footage right on the timeline. FCP will handle the upconversion. Are both clips 20.97 fps? We do it all the time.
