  • help! Can you view Multi Spilt Screen in Sequence Viewer

I would like to view the multi clip split in the sequence side viewer. You can see split multi clips when they are in the play side viewer but you only see the dominant clip when the clips are in the timeline.

Anybody have any ideas? It would be appreciated.

One is the Viewer (you’re preview viewer), the other is the Canvas (your timeline viewer). You are able to simultaneously see the different multiclip angles in the Viewer, but not in the Canvas.

If it is a split-screen look you are looking to achieve, try playing with the controls in the Motion tab of each clip. You’ll have to have the clips on separate layers.

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for your imput. My problem is that I do all of my cutting in the timeline. I don’t pop things up in the preview viewer then cut them into a timeline. Instead I put all of the footage in the timeline and manipulate it there. Soooo….I’m trying to figure a way to see the multi-clip split screen while I’m screening rushes in the time line, then turn off the split and cut the sequence. I think I’m asking a bit much but I was hoping there was a way of doing this.
Anyway, thanks for trying. (you were the only one that replied)

I’m not sure I completely understand, but if you have four tracks of stacked video and want to see each track at the same time you size each to 50% (use the scale setting in the Motion tab) and position them in the Canvas (make sure image + wireframe is selected) so you can see all four. Of course, there’s no easy way to switch back and forth from the 4-way (in this example) to full-screen. You can move your edit choices to the top track and Remove Attributes on that clip and it will become full-screen. Then you won’t be able to view the clips under it unless you turn off the top video track. Then you’d see the remaining 3 tracks underneath.

    Hi John,

Thank you so much for such a detailed and well explained answer. Unfortunately, I think my original query is confusing people. My bad!

I’m going to copy to you a further explaination that I have already sent to Mike Barber. Maybe it will clarify my problem. I’m not sure there is a soulution.

Anyway, thank you so much for your help and no worries if you have don’t have anything more.

Here’s maybe a better description of my problem:

    Trevor –

I am assuming you are using the Final Cut “multi-clip” feature.

    1) First of all in the prefiew monitor you should have “sync open” checked. As you play your timeline you will then see all cameras playing in sync as the timeline plays.

    2) While you can’t have the multi-clip play in the canvas you can have it play on your external monitor by going to the “View” tab and at the very bottom of the list you will find “show multi-clip angles.” Turn this feature on and the multi-clip will play to your external monitor.

    Herb! Thank You!!
This is the answer. All of my cutting happens in the timeline. I can finally use the multi-clip feature in a way that applies to the way I cut.
    Thanks again,
