JK has a good reputation and very good service. The Quicktap looks good. The only issue you may have is the local phone (you talking) may be louder than the received call like you described in your initial post. But, probably not as soft as you described. This is common in less expensive units. If you have an audio editing program with noise reduction (Apple Soundtrack Pro, iZotope RX, etc.)you can eliminate a lot of the background noise that comes up as you increase the gain.

Use the graphic equalizer and lower the gain of each slider to -20 starting with 20kHz (I think that’s the highest frequency control). When you get down to around 5kHz you’ll want to start playing with lesser amounts of cut. Keep going lower in freq until it’s muffled to your taste.

You can also try an Audio Mixdown: Sequence Menu > Render Only > Mixdown.

I’m not familiar with the Radio Shack unit. We use a JK Audio Broadcast Host which is an excellent unit. There are many JK choices at various price points. Here’s a link to JK’s product page. https://www.jkaudio.com/products.htm

July 21, 2009 at 7:32 pm in reply to: QT with Sorenson 3 codec into FCP?

Yes, you want a self-contained mov. If the provider is using FCP, then a file with Current Settings, self-contained will be fine. There’s no need to transcode to another codec. If the original is DV then export DV. If it’s ProRes export that, etc.

Another output idea is to play the seq with timecode (in realtime) out to a DVD recorder.

If you Google “corrupt wav file” a bunch of links pop up. Here are a couple. I have no idea if these work.

If you search the Cow for “Avid codecs” and you’ll find many posts with the answer to your question. After the Avid codecs are installed on the FCP system, it will be able to export files for use on Avids.
