There is no standard followed by all manufacturers. That’s what title safe is all about. You’ll always find some monitors cut off more than others. Use your tv that cuts a lot off as your “acid test” in the future. Andy Mees has a free FCP generator called “Andy’s Guides” that allows you to make your own title safe guide. Search for it and you’ll find it.

Ty has it right. You must sync the audio workstation with the camera. Most pros do this with video ref which is sent to all cameras and the audio workstation (which is then resolved to word clock). Our Pro Tools system has a box called the Sync IO. Its job is to keep audio and video signals in sync. Over an hour, sync will drift if you haven’t locked the devices together. It’s subtle-2 tenths of a percent in tiyr case. The miniDV isn’t running fast or slow. It’s drifting slightly. Pro Tools can expand and compress time. Cakewalk can probably do the same. In fact, Soundtrack Pro in FCP can also probably do it. Try one of those.

Something fishy is going on. It makes no sense Duel can’t write the driver for their product. My Duel has worked very well with Tiger and I’ve never upgraded as I use the MBP only for field off-load of P2.

Instead of DV-PAL try ProRes. That should keep your program in HD.

I’d call Iconix tech spt and ask them what codec is being used. Ask them if they know of a program that can get the MXF into FCP. Have you tried using MPEG Streamclip to open the QT?

We use Imagine Products HD Log to screen clips in the field after off-loading P2 cards. The way we shoot we always end up with short clips that don’t exceed 4GB. P2 cards are formatted FAT32 which has a max file size of 4GB. I suspect what you’re seeing is related to that. The flash may be occurring as the player switches from one file to the next(spans). FCP stitches these spanned files together during transfer so you end up with a smoothly playing file.
