Keylight is a great keyer. I usually use it in AE, too. If you’re familiar with it, that’s what I’d suggest. I’ve never has a problem round-tripping to FCP. Just watch that your settings in AE match FCP. I thought you needed to stay in FCP. The easiest way to setup your sequence is open a new sequence and drag a clip in. If the sequence is not setup properly for the clip, FCP will ask if you want the sequence set to match the clip’s parameters. Answer yes and you’re good to go.

As for pulldown, it depends on how your footage was shot. Typically, 24P means the footage is shot at 29.97 (or 59.94) with pulldown added. The pulldown adds extra frames to the 24 so all the frames fit in the 29.97 (59.94) timebase. When you capture or transfer the clips, FCP removes these extra frames leaving 24fps.

Try using Compressor to convert to the timebase of your choice. Be sure to turn Frame Controls on and select Best for all quality settings.
