As you’ve shot 1080, isn’t your film already widescreen (16×9)? You’d only need the letterbox on a 4×3 screen. If you release the film as a DVD, players attached to 4×3 screens should automatically letterbox the film. This option is set when you author the DVD.

I have no idea why this is happening. However, try Export to self-contained, Current Settings (do NOT recompress frames) – do not use QT Conversion. Open the file in QT to check sync. If it’s good, import that file into Compressor and make your H.264 file. If sync isn’t good, hopefully someone else will have another idea.

You didn’t mention your system specs so I’m not sure if disk space and speed are an issue. That said, I’d use DVCPro50 (roughly equivalent to Beta SP) or ProRes (looks close to uncompressed). They will look better than DV for a variety of reasons.

I know the Kona 3 will experience audio popping if the control panel’s genlock setting isn’t set to ref in. That might apply to a Kona 2. Also, someone mentioned that a bad audio render file could cause this.

I’m not an expert, but I believe the main difference is the Kona 3 has mainly digital ins and outs – HD-SDI & SDI for video and AES for audio (although, there are two analog audio RCA outs and a component/composit/s-video out); and the LHi adds more analog I/O and HDMI. The Kona 3 can also deal with Dual-Link and 2k.

If there are graphics you should also consider DVCPro 50 or ProRes as they’re much higher-quality codecs compared to DV.
