There are a number of things that can affect stutter. Stutter will appear worse the sharper the image, and the increased depth of field of HD cameras can make stutter worse. Use some ND and open up your exposure to reduce the depth of field. The faster the pan, the more stutter. The American Cinematographer’s Handbook has charts with recommended pan speeds for different frame rates. Shutter angle settings will also affect stutter. Typical setting for 24P would be 1/48. But you can experiment with that a bit.

Another big advantage of separately archived MXF files (which Shane has written about in the past) is that you can batch capture all the QT files in a project from the project file and MXFs.

I’m not at the office now, but I think there’s a lens flare generator in FCP. Try that out. Also, there are 3rd-party plugins like Volumetrix. Nattress’ Big Box of Tricks includes a lens flare and lots more. Google and you’ll find other options. And AfterFX has lens flare options, too.

I’ve not done this, but I believe a Kona will add pulldown to a 23.976 clip to arrive at 29.97 in real time. Hopefully, someone else will confirm that or shoot it down.

H.264 is not an edit codec. It should be converted to one like ProRes. You can do that with Compresor. If you search there are many posts on the subject.

Some cameras have clip repair functions. See if your camera can do that. Also, you might checkout ClipWrap It’s an alternative to L&T. Maybe it’d have more luck with the problem media. Ther’s a trial version.

A cross-convert with hardware like a Kona 3 would work very well with material at the same frame rate. But it won’t work with different frame rates. For that you need hardware like a Teranex.
