I’ve been snapped at for rejecting plugins, but even now we keep them to a minimum – with the exception of Beauty Box and Color Finale.
That said, when we have a random project that’s more cranky than normal, we recreate a new library with it and keep on trucking.

Maybe I don’t notice any big issues anymore – that’s not to say that it’s bug free – it’s just that I don’t see them. We do always make it a point to work on new machines with it, so perhaps that is part of it?

I’d store media and data outside of the library and swap libraries. You’ll retain all data that way.

By update they mean an update on the latest and greatest information, not the actual product.

  • Check out the App on the mac app store called ‘Any Video Converter HD”. Use the Xbox 720p settings and it’ll create a 720p WMV in no time.

[Don Smith] “Is the 5k iMac, maxed out, really good for editing Final Cut Pro X? “

Yep! It’s a great mac. No complaints.

Doesn’t seem to work correctly directly out of FCPX. That’s fine tho – it’s good to have a Prores version of the submaster as DNXHD145 is poopalicious.

Yeah – that works fine. We just have to export a master file and then use compressor on that vs exporting directly out of FCPX. Whew!

[Don Smith] “The big question is, for either the BMD Mini Monitor or the Belkin hub, is does FCPX recognize either as a monitoring output? I mean, is either or both available as an option for video monitoring in the preferences and when you go to select A/V Output under the Window menu, is your timeline video routed to either device?”

Actually both do. The BMD will be an AV output device with a 1080p maximum resolution. The Belkin HDMI port is treated as a second display, which you can assign to be the primary window for Events or Viewers, depending on your preference. When I use it in conjunction with the Thunderbolt display, I either have my big monitor as a 3rd display or a dedicated AV Output.

    That help?
