That 5.4 million is taxed as income, so I would say their burn rate right now is about 10 months. They’ll need to turn a profit quickly and I don’t see them generating sellable content for another 3 months at least. Perhaps they have rights to their old stuff but I know very little about RRKIDZ.

I was going to respond with something similar Mark but didn’t. 30k with those benefits actually costs them about 50k after taxes since it’s a full time job. 5.4 million seems like they should be on easy street but with 30+ employees in Burbank it’s anything but. I estimate they’re burning through about 250 to 300k (if not more) in expenses per month once you factor taxes, legal, insurance, rents, etc. That’s not even factoring in infrastructure costs for building it up from pretty much scratch. I wonder how much of that 5.4 million they actually get to use and how much goes to taxes.
No it’s not a great job if you’re a freelancer who just edited a series for broadcast television with 20 years of experience. If you’re 23 and have a few roommates, you could do worse. By my estimation it pays about 30k more than most craigslist jobs.
Creating full time jobs is not easy (especially in California!). While some of their expectations are unreasonable, there are absolutely worse jobs out there. Tough answer is that while I can say that I have mac pros older than that running Yosemite fine, if some of your older software has problems we can’t really help you. FCP7 works, but I rarely use that now. I have no idea about Avid or the version of Toast you’re using.
If you’re really worried about it, clone your system drive before upgrading.

Actually Bill, as probably the only person on this thread that completely moved over to the Photos app from Aperture – the heart of it is the iCloud Photo Library which I am paying about $10/month for for 500 gigs (it may be $15, I forget). I love having all my RAW sources – plus videos – in the cloud and synced across all my macs when needed. Making quick edits on the phone and then they trickle across to the mac in 2 seconds – that part is pretty great. Knowing my personal photo library isn’t tethered to the whims of a crashed drive is also great.
Not having skin smoothing, dodge, and the ‘stamp selected images’ in the Photos app sucks though. I’m very much looking forward to some Photos app updates.
Point is, everybody is going to get paid a monthly fee one way or another. Doh!

By making it an effect, you run less risk of accidentally overlapping with other plugins like color finale. I’m glad of this actually.
One thing that’s interesting is Apple’s color effect limits at 110 and -7, where color finale hard limits at 0 and 100 (which I prefer).
