    Marcus,

One of the things you should know realize about many of the demo reels you see in the demo forum is that those are compositors and motion graphics people who just do that type of work. So really you are comparing apples to oranges if that’s not what you do full-time.

As to the initial query, house I work at does 90% corporate video. Of that, we probably need to use AE for compositing, effects, animating logos in about 60% of the video. If you pick up the AE and the first Trish & Chris Meyer book, Creating Motion Graphics in AE, you will probably be able to handle 95% of your clients needs in regards to that little extra polish for corporate video.

If you check out our site which has quite a few vids up in the gallery, you can get an idea of the effects composition that corporate clients require. Just a warning, most of them videos are of the most visually interesting parts, after the first 20 seconds or so we start showing products or talking heads.

    Thanks,

Figured it couldn’t be done without creating multiple menus and auto-activate and a lot of thinking I really didn’t feel like doing on Friday.

Check out elastic gasket. Allows you to take 3rd party AE plugs and drop them into the Avid.

  • Thank you Dan

I’m only about 16 years removed from the last time I used trig fuctions and basic alegebra. Took me a bit to wrap my head around exactly how it worked out.

I feel for you having to deal with students like me. Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to put up motionscripts.com. Been using AE since Cosa 3.0, it’s about time I start fully taking advatage of the program.

The best looking way would be to run over a stuntman’s head with a car, but I don’t think most unions would allow it…

    Easily done in AE.

Create multiple layers of text for each word. Then animate the text offset parameter, animate the text opacity parameter.

I rarely use the mouse at all, having completely switched to a wacom. Takes a little bit to change over, but after learning how to do it, I don’t think I’ll ever switch back.

Using a mouse all day, seemed to be putting me on the fast track to carpal tunnel, glad I made the change.

To be fair it does take a little time to get used to it. What’s nice though is finding a configuration that works best for you, once you got that set up, I find it does save me time, having everything open, just a resize a way from getting to what I need.

You can change the default colors by going into the edit menu color sets. It’s in one of the pulldowns. Don’t have it in front of me now, so I can’t tell you off hand.
