    Hello,
Working on a little project that requires it to appear as if a guy’s head is run over by a car. I think I can handle the mechanics of shooting-but the actual head squish- that one I’d like a little help with if possible.

It would be great if I could actually stay on the shot- and make a squish effect of everything exploding and squishing out!

I thought about shooting a watermelon – or something- and trying to track the guy’s face onto the melon- but I’m sure there are easier, smarter approaches.
    Thanks in advance!

There many ways this could be done….just be creative.
If you know someone that can do a lifecasting of your talent to create a mold of their head, then create a fake head you could fill with all kinds of chum.
Or another way is to place a mask (could a store bought mask…) over a melon filled with various squishy things (a Troma favorite method).

Then on set shoot a couple of passes with a locked down camera. Once with talent lying on the ground, then another with the head and the car running it over in the same spot. Then composite things together, or just do quick cuts in the edit. Most sfx are so quick, you can really get away with a lot.

The best looking way would be to run over a stuntman’s head with a car, but I don’t think most unions would allow it…
