You could create your titles in AE, bring them into Encore and drop then into a timeline. Set the first one to first play and the end action to your slideshow. End action of slide show 1 intro 2, end action of intro 2—slide show 2…..

You can’t incorporate them directly into the slideshow, but you could just have them fade to black at the end, then have the first and last slide come up and go down to black.

If you want to be really tricky, say Intro 1 in AE, at the end you dissolve to the first slide, then make sure you have the randam scale and pan turned off for that slide, it would look pretty seemless then. Turn of random pan an scale for the last slide.

Intro 2, you start with last slide dissolving into title, play title, dissolve to first slide of show 2 as you did with intro 1.

Yes when previewing within Encore my seemless transition flashed black as I previewed it. I was about to chuck the entire thing, when I decided to try an burn it and watch it on a settop player. Worked fine after that.

Are you seeing this black frame during preview in Encore. Often the preview is slower then it will play on a DVD player.

You can link from a submenu to a specific menu button.

If you just link to the menu from the pulldown, it will link to the default button, but from the “return to mainmenu” you can either pulldown or pickwhip to a specific button.

To pickwhip, you would open the main in the monitor, then click on the sub in the project, open layers, select the button, then pickwhip to the button you want for the return.

Off the top of my head is the 720×480 lower field first. That would affect how it looks.

Depending on the severety of the motion, you’ll have to up-res (scale up) the image to hide the moving edges – degrading your image.

Chris, isn’t that why they created those 1.85 masks?

Probably the difference between computer levels and video levels. Try creating an adjustment layer then adding a levels adjust effect. Change the imput black to 16 and the output black to 235.

10 years ago I was pretty much in the same boat as your intern, just starting out, no real experience but very motivated to break into this business. Fortunately for me I found an extremely talented editor/shooter who said I could hang out with him on shoots and edits, providing I would help out around the studio.

During shoots for the first 3 months he always brought along a paid grip or some paid assistant. Then for a couple of shoots, it was just me and him. Now I realize I was being tested to see if I could handle it. After that he offered to make me his number 1 go to guy. About 7 months later he hired me full-time.

Just my opinion, but I think that was a pretty good way to figure out if I could do the job and two whether I was serious or wasting his time. Worked out well, since I’m making a living doing this now.

Along with the great tutorial Aharon created, one of the things I like to do creating this look is to gum up the RGB’s.

To do this I dupe my video layer twice(total 3 layers). Then add a set-channel effect to each. For each layer, turn off two of your RGB’s and leave the other on. You will have 3 layers, each one of the 3 RGB colors. Now set the transfer mode to each layer to screen. Everything looks normal.

Now on the top two layers, animate your anchor point. I just put a keyframe at the beginning and the end, then set the wiggler to taste. Say frequency 4, ammount 15.

Now when played it will give the look of mis-aligned tube guns.

When moving or panning around real documents you will often get these problems just because you are moving between fields with lines of text that can disappear between the fields.

The first thing I would try is to rescan the document at a very high resolution, 600DPI. This might get you enough information and make the text big enough to avoid this problem, though if you are going to zoom from full document to CU of one line you are going to have the same problems. Zooming from a paragraph to the line might work.

Another solution would be to make a decent size .pict and just let the editor do the move in Avid Marquee. I use AE and Adrenaline and for stuff like what you describe, marquee will handle it better.

Also, is it possible to not zoom? Why not show the document, full screen, then just dissolve to the line of text blown up. Or use the technique where you leave the full page doc up, it slowly gets darker, as a dissolve of the important line comes up over it.
