I find that if you are going to go with premultplied, you should change the bkg color of your comp to match the glows, otherwise you will often get black outlines around your text glows.

Of course if you are laying this over black it won’t matter, but over video, especially lighter colored subjects it’s often very noticable.

Under the Channels effect, there is the 3D glasses effects where you can offet the convergence as much as you want.

Otherwise you could create 2 layers, add a shift channel to both, then offset and use transfer modes to achieve the desired effect.

That would work fine.

My only hesitation on this is if my client wants something to loop, on a DVD, well I’m sure as heck not going to give him the option of screwing it up by not knowing that repeat means loop, or trusting him to find repeat on a DVD submenu. I have learned that idiot proofing everything is just essential in this business(learned most of those lessons the hard way).

If you want to get a DVD authoring program I couldn’t reccommend enough Adobe Encore 2.0. Since you are already working with AE, once you get familiar with a few of the concepts you will be estatic with the power it offers in conjuction with AE and photoshop.

Create 2 clips and place them on top of each other. On the bottom layer, use color correction “Hue/Sauration” and set the saturation to 0. Top layer, create a mask around the rose only. If it’s a movie clip you will have to follor it.

Another way to create this effect is to use the stylize and “leave color” effect. Adjust the softness and tolerance to taste.

The problem with running a QT off a laptap is that it’s a pretty large size file, it may stutter. I don’t like presuming anything, but it sounds like you may not know DVD authoring, if you do then I apologize. A looping DVD is very easy to create if you have a program to do that.

What I think would be the easiest and will play on almost anything would be to render the movie out with a MPEG2 compression. Under the format options on lossless, I would create 2 or 3 compressions, with different target bitrates. Just in case the laptap has trouble playing the movie.

Have the client play the video in windows media viewer, set it to full screen and repeat.

If your adrenaline is crashing that often, I would talk to Avid about that. I’ve been using mine for a year and it’s steady as a rock. Almost everyone I have talked with who has one loves the machine.

DVD’s use gop structure(Group Of Pictures), you can only place your chapter point at the head of these gops.

I’m not sure, cause I haven’t tried this, but I think in some editing programs you can set the chapter points, and the gops will be created around them for precise placement, but my understanding of this might be off.

It may be some extra work, but could you make your transition movie into a menu, then just set the loop point at the 2:00 mark? Then you would be moving from menu to menu. Which IMO goes a bit faster and less of a jerkiness.

Okay, in photoshop you have your button, which will be in a layer set. Twirl open the folder and click on the highlight layer. I think perhaps you were on another layer and that’s why the you weren’t able to edit the highlight layer.

That’s really the only thing I can think that would cause a layer to not be editable.
