Because you mentioned zaxwerks, I’m guessing you are looking to do something with a 3D feel to it. Check out the Blender tutorials on the Cow. Might be a good place to start.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 ways to do this.
1. Create a color composition. Put purple solid on the bottom half of the composition, a white on the top half. They need to overlap. Bring that precomp into your text comp. Place the text on a layer over color comp and change the color comps TrkMat to “alpha”. You will have to move the text around until it’s exactly where you want it. Then parent the color comp to the text. You will be able to move it anywhere after that and the colors will follow.
2. You could put your colors in the same composition with your text. Place the text on the top layer and change it’s Mode to Stencil Alpha. This would work okay, if it’s the only thing in the comp, but if you start using other layer modes, it could mess things up. Best thing would to make this it’s own precomp and bring the entire thing into your final.
3. Create your text and under layer styles choose gradient…Won’t give you a sharp line, but a nice smooth transition between colors.

I can’t see anything from the pictures that would indicate why you are having this problem. If you can put the project on an FTP site, I’d be willing to download it and see if I can figure out why your particles are getting cut off.

Particular respects the z space and camera that you have created. From your photos, the background is set at 0 Z space, the particles are look to be moving from behind that position to in front of it.
Move the background to 100 or even farther back and the particles shouldn’t get cut off.

Few ways. You can adjust the time by going to where you want the clip to end and on a PC press “Alt + ]”. Or to perform an actual split “cntl+ shift + D” will split a layer, putting everything after the CTI on a new layer.

AE copies and pastes in the order that you select them. Make sure you select 1, then 2, then 3 then 4..if you want them to stay in that order.

Unless I’m missing something, you could export to QT animation. Work well if the computers are networked. If the animation ends up too big for a DVD, you’ll have to break it up then just piece it together head to tail in AE.
If you have the avid codec on your AE machine, you can save some space, by exporting to a quicktime and choosing the avid codec..
