  • Log format compresses all the color/luminance so you capture more dynamic range, but until you expand that back you aren’t getting that information. So first color correct the footage(probably just need to add the proper LUT’s) then key the footage.

That isn’t something I would recommend anyone new to After Effects to try, that’s a intricate reveal with multiple techniques involved.

Beginning looks like to be some kind of camera blur effect or effects, stacked on top of each other. Simple shape layers can be used to create the digital noise. The green lines could be created with strokes or shape layers, roughen edges effects, while simultaneously animating the stroke to come on and off.

The main logo animation looks to be a layered vector file, with different sections being revealed. If I had to guess the individual layers in the photoshop were copy and pasted into after effect shape layers. Looks like a lot of trim paths and wiggle paths, roughen edges were used on those shapes.

You could use very feathered shape layers to use as alpha mattes to achieve the vertical wipes on and off that is seen between 1 and 2 seconds.

Number of ways to shift the colors, colorama would be a good starting point.

Finally the entire thing was treated with a lot of glow effects.

You could do it all in AE, though I can’t say for sure they did. Mostly it’s just a lot of work. Check out the plugin at AEscripts, ptMultiplane. do searches for ‘The Kid Stays in the Picture” effect tutorials. Also look for Chris Zwar tutorials on the The Centrica Carnivale. He does some similar work flying through 2d layers.

  • Probably the best one would be Trapcode Form.

Recently a lot of Trapcode Forms features have been added to Trapcode Particular also, so that might be better. They are all part of the same Red Giant subscription though so if you get one, you get the other.

  • If this is a school project, IMO your teacher has made a mistake with step 6.

6-There is no layer style, Bevel and Emboss on that layer. —so skip this step. In step 2 you add a green solid, solids don’t start with Layer Styles or effects.

Go to step 7 and work from there.

When you are finished you should have a green logo that scale from filling the entire screen, then wiping to a red version of the logo. If I’m guessing right, he wants you to learn about the ‘copy with links’ function, where if you change the layer style of the red layer, it automatically updates the green layer. Saves time and you don’t have to do change the parameters on two layers.

I’ve attached what I think is the completed project and if you want you can tell the teacher from me to be more careful when assigning his work.

Take the graphic and drop it into it’s own composition, then resize that composition to what your final comp size is. Drop the precomp into your final comp and add effects.

Actually took a 2nd whack at it using the Cinema 4D render engine, curving a plane and placing it in the can’s position and it came out pretty close.

If someone were to pay me to do this, I probably would be looking at doing a 3D camera track in Cinema 4D, and then placing a cylinder where the can is and build from there. No matter what the approach you take, this is going to be a very tough shot to do some kind of replacement.

I don’t think Mocha AE is going to do the job you want because it does planar tracking and you need camera or 3D tracking. I took a shot at it with AE camera track and got a decent track. I inserted a cylinder object into the scene at the tracked point(except for it not landing exactly where it should—there might be a difference between CC 3D space and AE 3D space) it tracks well. Take a look at the project I created and see if that gives you a starting point.

I’m a little scared if Mocha and AE have failed, but I’ll take a look at the shot.

Shoot me an email at johnfcuevas@gmail.com with a link to the shot

There aren’t any set dimensions. Generally, use as much space as needed to create clear and legible graphics. My personal rule of thumb is that to never use a font smaller than 32 px and build around that.
