    Hi,
i have a Alpha PNG logo supplied by client that i want to autotrace to apply an affect (VCP Saber) to outline the image, however the autotrace creates the new layer the dimensions of the image.

so when i apply the affect you can see the edges. (see pics)
is there away to increase the layer size relevant to the image (to give it more space around the edges)

or is there a better technique?
    thanks
    Nil

Take the graphic and drop it into it’s own composition, then resize that composition to what your final comp size is. Drop the precomp into your final comp and add effects.

    thanks for your reply,
this doesn’t work unfortunately as the effect needs to use the layer mask information to create the outline.
so i need to apply the effects on the shape layer which has the masks, within the comp.

any other solutions i could try?
    thanks again

    Hi Nil,

there’s a bug in Saber in that it doesn’t recognize anything you try to do to force your layer to be bigger (such as a grow bounds or simple choker before Sabre).

So the only option you have is to actually make your layer larger + scale down the masks.

You can select all the Masks and then transform them with Command-T.

Or copy them to a larger Solid Layer and apply the Saber there, that would be the better option.

Thank You! problem solvedit was grow bounds / simple choker was the type of thing i was after in my head..but it doesn’t work anyway so nvm!😂i also had no idea about scaling masks uniformly with with CMD T 😳, that would have reduced many a grey hair and wrinkles had i known about that years agoThank you for your help!
