    They have some of the best sounding free sfx that I’ve found. When you go to the site, click on ‘download’ and not ‘audition’ if you want to listen. Otherwise you have to go through Realplayer. ‘Download’ just opens a QT movie in a new window.

    You can also go to Yahoo and type ‘free sound effects’ in the search field for a bunch more. Some of These are of lesser quality than Ljudo though.

    I’m new to Soundtrack, but what I’ve found is that if you send a clip from the timeline to an audio edit in ST and make changes it *destructively* changes the *original clip*. I don’t like that, so I export the clip, import it back to FCP, put it back on the timeline, then send to ST. ST changes the clip after you save, then I replace the original clip on the timeline.

    I just purchased an MBP with FCP Studio installed. After having an issues booting up, I took it to the Genius Bar. The guy there told me that FCP is not really authorized to run on MBP (emulated) and was told to uninstall and get the crossgrade to universal. Peter, are you using emulation or universal?

    I had the same problem and gave up on using multicam because of too much wasted time troubleshooting. I wonder why screen resolution would matter?

    FWIW Peter, you’ve spurred me into finally delving into Soundtrack, and the results are somewhat better (although I’m still working through workflow issues). It appears to be worth the effort though.

    When you down-size the graphic, is the Scale a whole number? I’ve had some wierdness when the Scale is going from say 43.37 to 84.5. When I’ve changed it to 44 to 85, the jaggy, wobbles disappear.

    You are only partially correct. It also depends on where the sound originates what it reflects off of. The longer the delay the greater the perceived size of the room. As I said, for my application of creating simulated stereo from concert footage, a one frame delay works fine. For other applications where the room is smaller, you would likely need a dedicated DAW to achieve a delay of anywhere between 7-100 milliseconds.

    I’ve been doing this for a couple years now for a weekly program and have never had a tape rejected. The show airs on a local ABC affiliate and also internationally via satellite (10 separate networks). I worked as a Master Control Operator for 5 years, so I’m well aware of broadcast standards.

    The amount of stereo delay we perceive is dependent upon the size of a room; i.e. the echo of a large room is different than that of a small room, which is different than outdoors. Echo is different in a room with carpet and drapes than it is for an empty room. For my purposes, (concert footage) the 1 frame offset (1/30 of a second) works perfectly and sounds completely natural.

    As with any effect, you have to test it for yourself and see if it works in your situation. Again, this technique does not violate broadcast standards in any way.
