  • Are you using the 4.8.1 drivers? They are the ONLY ones that work with Vegas.

I actually have an external enclosure that holds 2 SATA drives that I RAID0’d together. I used two open channels from my 8 channel Raid controller card and they have almost the same speed as my 4 disk RAID 5 Array. Plenty of speed to play multiple streams of uncompressed SD video.
And yes, a single drive will also be much faster then a Firewire or USB2 external.

We have a Pinnacle DV500 card that we use with Premiere 6.5 and a few months ago Premiere started crashing and bluescreening the computer everytime we would try to run it. I noticed the last thing Premiere was trying to load before the crash was the pinnacle drivers.
So I disabled the 2 Pinnacle drivers in device manager and suddenly Premiere works fine. If I need to capture through the DV500 I can actually re-enable the drivers while Premiere is open and they work.
Haven’t found any other way around this problem. I suspect a microsoft patch could be the cause as we have had this system running fine for years.

You have to use your DV camera to convert the analog signal coming from your VCR to digital. Most all DV cameras can do this.
You would play your old tapes on your VCR running either the composite or S-Video output into your DV camera. You will probably have to change some settings on your DV camera too, check your manual.
Also, you won’t have control of the camera so you will have to manually start the VCR and hit “record” button in premieres capture window.

I bought my DL extreme with the intent to use it with Vegas. But found the combination so buggy and unstable that I upgraded an old copy of Premiere 6 we had lying around in hopes it would be a more usable working enviorment.
Vegas 6 itself had a lot of issues when it came out. Don’t know how far they got ironing those problems out since I now use PPro all the time and have really grown to like it.

I’m still having the same issues with alpha channels that I reported earlier. No change at all in behavior.

  • I have 4 200GB Western Digital SATA drives RAID 5 on a Rocketraid 1820a controller.
    Drive is 70% full
    161MB/s Read
    80MB/s write

I have a spare attached to another channel and two more of the channels run to an external 2 drive RAID 0 made from 2 250GB Seagate Barracudas. My projects are backed up to this drive once an hour and speeds are:
    112MB/s
    108MB/s
    Drive is 60% full

Yes,I posted here and emailed BM support. They thanked me for the time I put into explaining how to replicate the problem and said it would be helpful to them in finding the issue.
I assume they are still working on it, as I haven’t heard anything since. I went back to the 5.1.2 drivers since they work fine till I hear something from BM.
