James,
It really depends on the project for me.
If I have a long performance or presentation, either with one camera or multiple cameras, I’ll bring it in via one long clip.
Similarly, if the tape segment is very short or marginal B-roll clips, for instance, where I do not need to log each clip, I will bring it in as one long clip and let DV scene extraction do the dirty work of subclipping.
All of this is moot when dealing with P2 or XDCAM clips, however, which is the majority of what I deal with these days.

Tim,
Time shifting the clip, as Bob Russo’s tutorial outlines, should get you where you want to go. How much are you speeding it up? Like Bob’s example, it you up the speed to 104%, it’s difficult to detect the change in speed. Can you experiment by exaggerating the speed-up? This should tell you whether it’s working or not…

I’m currently using a pair of Sennheiser HD600 closed ear headphones. The EQ is a bit heavy on bass, but not overly so. Very comfortable for hours of work. I record a lot of VO with them.

For all of the features and accomplishments that Avid is famous for, inculding AMA, ScriptSync, etc., this is in my opinion the best and most unique feature of all the NLEs out there.

Absolutely, Terry. This doesn’t mean you will have great results without the proper thought, planning and accomodations taken on daylight shooting with night in mind. But with the right approach and circumstances, you can achieve the look. A good reference for what can be done is here:

Or, you might just get lucky. I never seem to ‘just get lucky.’ :-/

Becky,
Is BCC (Boris) loaded on the MC 3.0? There is a day for night preset in the film look settings that you can tweak as needed.

James Beattie has built several systems for me over the years…they have always run flawlessly. James is a great source of information and hip to all things Avid.
Thanks, James!

Should hold. I’ve heard of others who have found this defaulting back to where it was previously set, but I haven’t had this problem. Try setting it the way you want, save all and then close out Avid. Restart and see if it holds.

Michael,
You can do this by going to Drive Filtering in the General Settings. It also exists on the Change Group window (on the target drive pulldown) in the Digitize Tool.
Set it at the beginning of your edit session and it should not change.
