Douglas,
Have you used the Boris engine to output a QT movie to see if the effect works as it should? I’m not sure if 9.1 is totally compatible with MC (should be). If it works as a QT movie, you can then import the movie to Avid–shouldn’t be able to tell a difference.

Okay, I know you are aware of this, but I have to ask….is your video output set correctly within Avid? It sometimes randomly goes back to composite or s-video, etc. Deleting the MCState, etc. sometimes takes care of that.
If that’s not it, which Mojo are you using? The analog Mojo? Are your cables correct? Are your cables good? Did you change cables when you changed Mojos? What output are you using: composite, component, s-video or SDI?
Had to ask. 🙂

I never saw this problem with 5.6, but I typically uncheck the ‘use Avid codec’ box and send the QT ref to Sorenson for encoding.

“one more thing, all video files are showing, but when i select “show offline material” all clips become highlighted in their bin. mystery to me as the files play fine.”
Do you have a P2 card in the computer, or is the computer seeing a ‘virtual P2 drive’ along with the hard drive where your images are? If so, this can confuse the Avid.

If you didn’t change anything in your setup and now this funkiness happens, delete your user settings, your MCState and create new user settings. Tell us if it still is problematic.

Do you have Sorenson? You can export a QT ref and let the encoding program made to do this accomplish the task for you.
I don’t think it takes either of my approved systems that long, but I know it’s not super quick, either.

You just save it out as a QT ref file, making sure to uncheck the “use Avid codec” box, and then either use Sorenson to make your MPEG2 (my preference) or let Avid DVD do encode for you.
Try a small file first to make sure it’s to your liking before you encode and author the whole project.

Some clients are impressed, some are not. Very few will actually be put off with your mention of them, but, having said that, know your audience (in this case, clients) and don’t include it for them. For all others, a brief mention or just a descriptor like “Telly-award winning editor” won’t take up too much room in your resume.
You DO craft your resume differently for different clients, don’t you? 🙂

Michael,
It’s the picture-in-picture effect.
Or, if you have Avid FX (or Boris FX or RED), you can do this effect just as easily there.
