I am having partial success using BorisFX 9.1 with MC.

Transitions and most effects seem to be working as they should.
The problem is when trying to create a “reveal route” on a map.
I add the BorisFX to the clip on the timeline.
Click on the Boris button in the Effect Palette.
BorisFX opens and I create the route reveal using the paint function
I have come as far as getting the BorisFX with the route back to the MC timeline.
I can step frame by frame through the effect and all is well.

On the timeline I have the icon with the blue dot at the bottom right.

When I click on the “Render” button I can see the render progressing to completion.
Then the blue dot has gone from the icon – AND the effect has also gone!

By backing one step in the history I can get back to the blue dot and the effect showing when I step frame by frame.

Any ideas at to what I am doing wrong?

    Douglas,

Have you used the Boris engine to output a QT movie to see if the effect works as it should? I’m not sure if 9.1 is totally compatible with MC (should be). If it works as a QT movie, you can then import the movie to Avid–shouldn’t be able to tell a difference.

Joe, Thank you for your input.

Before I had seen your reply I made a new attempt at getting it to work.
I am hapy to say I succeeded!!!

For anyone else who runs into this problem, here is what I did.

I added the BorisFX (AVX2.0) effect to the clip on MC’s timeline.
Clicked on “Launch user interface” in the Effect Editor to get to BorisFX.

Made my route in BorisFX. (So far same as I had tried before)
    BUT then…….
I added a “Gradient Media” track above the reveal track.
I adjusted the Gradient mask so that the alpha channel was zero.
I made it an animated gradient for the length of my “reveal” effect.
Hit “Apply” and was back in MC.
I rendered the track on the timeline and —- Hey Presto! it worked. [:O]

Why it didn’t work without the Gradient mask I have no idea……. but I am happy to have solved that one.

    [:D]

Hope this can help anyone else who has met this problem,

    Regards,

    Douglas
