Activity Forums Avid Media Composer AVID Layering Question

I’m using AVID Media Composer v2.7.7.

I am learning AVID, and I’m trying to do what I believe should be a simple effect. I’ve searched the forums for awhile now, and couldn’t find an answer …. apologies if this has already been discussed before.

I would like to split two images down the middle, and show both at the same time. I’ve tried putting the clips on two video tracks on top of each other, and cropping one, but I can never see the clip on the track below it. I’ve tried rendering it, shrinking it, etc., but I can never see more than one clip on the screen at a time unless it is during a dissolve (which is not what I want).

Any thoughts or advice would be extremely welcome … on other NLE’s I’ve used in the past (like FCP or DPS Altitude), I would use a crop tool or a garbage matte.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Michael,

    It’s the picture-in-picture effect.

Or, if you have Avid FX (or Boris FX or RED), you can do this effect just as easily there.

Have you tried side by side PIP?
