Set device control to “Non-Controllable device”. You’ll have to start the digitize and then hit play on the deck. And you won’t get timecode off the tape.

In my “Good old linear days” we a Fostex TC dat (can’t remember the model) that we could never controll. Had to buy a Sony 7030 which worked great. Not much help in your case but it may be a lost cause. I would suggest looking for a work around as we wasted weeks trying to get our fostex to work.

Don’t forget about Motion. Very easy to add text and gfxs to a layer and animate it as one piece.

There is some hidden limit to to number of fonts the basic text tool can deal with. I ran into this on 4.5. However I echo the other posts. Boris is far superior to the basic text tool, even for the simple stuff. Just try it for a few days and you wont go back.

Right click or control click on the nest and select “open in viewer”.

Add an edit either side of the transition, nest it, then animate a color correction to crush the luma and choma in mid-transition. Not elegant but it works.

I guess I find it easier to get what I want out of Motion than the motion tab. Plus the integration with FCP makes it very handy. I’m sure ther are better programs out there for motion control but Motion works well for me.

Motion works great. You can tweak the scale and transform curves for very precise control. It does take longer to make a move. I usually do the simple drifts with the FCP motion tab and leave only the complex smooth-landing moves for Motion.
