  • Canopus ADVC-55 Beta SP analog to FCP digital

Posted by Phil Giriodi on October 20, 2006 at 9:25 pm

I purchased a Canopus ADVC-55 unit in order to convert my Betacam SP analog tapes to FCP digital for editing. However, I cannot get my Mac G-5 and FCP 4.5 to capture the footage. I can see it coming through my external NTSC monitor but FCP does not see it.

I would appreciate a response from anyone reading this message who is using such a devise successfully.

    1. How should the dip switches be set on the rear of the Canopus?
    2. What settings should be used on FCP capture?

    Thanks for your assistance.

Do you have FCP set to capture DV-NTSC? That box converts your Beta to DV so you need to be set up to capture DV.

    Walter,

Thanks for your response. Yes I do have FCP set to capture DV by setting it to DV-NTSC. I am taking the output firewire of the Canopus to the firewire input of the Mac.

There must be a simple solution but I can’t seem to locate it.

Then it just sounds like the box is not set up correctly for whatever input you’re using. Like you’re feeding it S-Video but it’s set up for Composite, or something like that.

Set device control to “Non-Controllable device”. You’ll have to start the digitize and then hit play on the deck. And you won’t get timecode off the tape.
