This refraction distortion problem seem like a job a had a couple of years ago, You really had to control the shape of the glass. I wound up using loft nurbs and tweaking the profiles until I achieved the desired result. Rounded edges created the distortion that I wanted.
Heres a quick sample in 9.6

good luck with that… -
Also there is a cool modifier already inside of c4d, look up atom array, it lets you render the splines as well as small spheres.
its located under the array, boolean, etc tab…. this is closer to what you are familiar with in MAX… -
When you say visible light, I’m thinking what you really want is a volumetric light, which can be found within the same menu as visible. The volumetric light does require shadows to be enabled, but will displace the visibility based upon the shadow created by the geometry. Be aware that there’s usually quite a render penalty for using this feature.

Could not see movie, but you might try this:

You may have to register first, but this is a nice splatter courtesy of Scott Frizzle.
The trapcode-people.net site is a real nice place to share and learn trapcode stuff.
Lots and lots of effects files to download. I’m still trying to make one worthy of upload… -

June 5, 2006 at 3:33 am in reply to: New user question, can’t find answer in help file re: converting 2d to 3d…No you cannot use an image file to make an ordinary 3d object, the 3d world is made up of vectors (sort of). The .ai files must be “merged” with the scene. Its like importing.

Not sure if I understand the question correctly…Are you mostly wanting to filter out all the objects from the timeline that are not animated and/or simply showing a single object in the timeline?. If thats the case… In the timeline window, near the upper right corner, click on the “lock” icon, it should turn black. everyhing in the timeline window will dissappear. Right click (PC) in the left portion of the timeline window and the dropdown will show you options, “show all animated” “remove all”…. etc. also, if you remove all and you want to work on a single object, you can then drag in an object from the object menu.

I was experimenting with some sports stuff awhile back, and although its not exactly a footage treatment, you may find certain portions useful. The final result is a bit old school looking… anyway its a technique to replicate a jumbotron look. It uses the standard issue cc tiler plug-in. you also might find it interesting that its a 3d camera scene that looks , well, 3-d.. but its all AE standard issue stuff. just go here https://www.birdhausdesign.com/public/ and download sportstestAE.zip (16meg) it has an animated sample. Hope you find something useful in there.

here’s what I did… first, determine the distance traveled times the amount of loops. assuming the mocap moves in Z, delete all the z pos keyframes. Put that hip bone in a null and move it the sum of the z move
