Are these files being panned to the center, and the summed? That would raise the levels. If there are phasing issues, that may make it muddy. Also double check the analog output levels on the 888 if you have that box.

Using MC3.5 or later, you’ll be able to link to the native XDCAM clips using Avid Media Access (AMA). Quick and easy. Make sure you read up on the XDCAM-AMA guide.

You can’t do 4K in Avid. You’ll need to use some DI tools for that.

I did this a few times, with a 100 min program. I exported QT Ref or Same As Source, with 709 levels, then used Sorensen Squeeze to encode for BluRay. Make sure that, in the Advanced video settings, you select the option that the source footage is already 16-235. Also make sure that the total file size will end up being under 23GB. I then used Avid DVD to create a Disk Volume, then used Avid DVD to burn this Disk volume.
All in all, this is a pretty time consuming operation, and you will need to spend some time getting it right, I’m afraid.
You could also use Avid DVD straight from the QT Ref and let Avid DVD do the transcoding, but then you need to export at RGB levels, as Avid DVD gives you no control over these levels, and assumes all inputs are 0-255.

Yes you can. But the main caveat is that between version 3.x and 3.5, there was a change in the color correction effect (it became keyframeable). The downside is that if you open a 3.x sequence in 3.5 or later, it will duplicate the sequence and promote it to the new CC effects type. You can’t use that sequence in v3.x anymore, unless you Demote it first.
The same goes for any regular 2D effects between MC5 and MC4-and-earlier.
