Video is 16-235, computer screens display 0-255. So video black, on a computer screen, look greyer than full computer black.

I wouldn’t write off the Air.
I’ve occasionally worked on a 2.16GHz MacBook (non-pro), and that seemed to work. Trouble with the Air may be connecting a drive.
Also, you might like to have some screen real estate.I’ve got an MBP 17″ with MC5 and PT9, and an MXO2 mini. It’s the greatest thing, but still a bit heavy to carry around. It’s more for setting up a working area outside of the studio (most importantly as a portable setup in the back of a mixing theatre).

There is a feature request section on the Avid Community Forums. That’s the easiest way to bring something to Avid’s attention. They will read it, but don’t expect any direct response to a request, as they are rare. Usually, these suggestions are collected and used by the product design teams.
Another way would be at trade shows. Generally, there are Avid representatives there, and they usually will keep there ears open for any comments.

You need a break-out box with HD-SDI inputs. That would be Mojo-DX (not Mojo or Mojo SDI) or Nitris DX. Or Adrenaline-HD (with the optional HD I/O board).

One big issue is HOW the files were captured. I have seen FCP captures with blacks at 0 rather than 16. If you transcode that into Avid, not sure what happens with the color space.

Yes, also a known issue.
The tracks are inactive. You can make them active if you unhide the track tools. -

If your system is a Westmere (12-core) Mac, then the ATI 5770 is the supported card.
On Nehalems (quad or dual-quad), it’s the GeForce GT120.
