Should work, but you should consider going to a service point and ask them to update your HD to a 7200 or an SSD. Response of the entire system will be faster.

P.S.: I have three PC’s and one Mac, all of them have had PT and MC (or Symphony) coinstalled. I have always stuck to the instructions in the co-install notes. For PT updates, I would uninstall MC/SY first, update PT, then reinstall MC/SY. And it always kept working.
Thing is: both apps install some common files, and MC/SY demands these are of a certain specific version, and PT apparently is less critical about that (or is more compatible).

You ABSOLUTELY should UNINSTALL Media Composer first.

* Install Pro Tools first and then Media Composer.
* You must uninstall all older versions of Media Composer or Pro Tools before installing newer versions.
* Co-install does not support both applications launched simultaneously.
* Co-install of Pro Tools LE with Mbox 2 Pro is not supported with Mojo, Mojo SDI or Adrenaline due to Firewire conflicts.
* Co-install was not qualified with Windows Vista 64.
* When you uninstall Pro Tools, choose to uninstall just the application, not the audio drivers. On a Macintosh Pro Tools system, this is named the “Safe Uninstall”.
* If you uninstall the audio drivers for Mbox or Mbox 2, Media Composer will no longer see these devices.
* If you run into any issues, uninstall both applications and reinstall Pro Tools first, then Media Composer.

I don’t think there is a limit, other than that MC can’t have more than 24 tracks and 16 voices. PT has a much higher limit, old versions were sometimes limited to 92 tracks or so, but I think the count is much higher in PT9 and PTX.

Bring the 30fps footage into a 60i project. Then go back to your 23.976p project and open the bin from the 60i project. MC will add motion adapters to convert the framerate, while keeping realtime realtime.

I/O devices of any kind are used to capture from decks and to monitor video signals on (calibrated) video monitors.

While you could get by without a video monitor for offline and for some productions for the web, you need a proper video monitor to finish anything that will ever end up on video (broadcast, DVD, BluRay, VOD) as computer monitors are not video monitors, and traditionally are set up completely different.

What does it say in the source file or tape column for 5001? What happens if you do a traditional import of 6001?

Seems to me like MC is thinking these two clips are the same. That would imply they share common TC and source.

In principle I agree with Jack that I would consider an I/O card. Many to choose from these days. Downside is that an I/O card is always a slight burden on the system. Software-only always runs faster. But even for offline I would want a decent big screen monitor to view what I’m doing.
