Symphony 6 with 5400rpm?
Posted by David C jones on July 14, 2012 at 3:21 pmHi All,
I have a 17″ Macbook Pro (2010) that meets or exceeds the requirements for Symphony 6 except my harddrive disk is 5400rpm and not 7200. Is this a factor (or a problem)?
Best,
Dave J

July 14, 2012 at 4:15 pmYes and no. Many people say not to capture to your OS disk but with 7.2k it is possible but still not recommended. With 5.4k it may be impossible. Of course aPplicstions and the OS itself will load and run slower due to the reduced speed but that’s about it

July 14, 2012 at 8:09 pmI’d be using a separate drive to store all the raw material on; Symphony would be on the internal drive. Of course, the why Avid works with bins (storing them on the same drive), maybe this wouldn’t work?

July 14, 2012 at 8:27 pmlol. I see I had a mistype 🙂
Basically, I just want to make sure that if I use an external drive for my raw footage, and have the avid software on the internal drive, that all will still work (considering my internal drive is 5400). Right now I’m cutting a doc this way on FCP7. I know Avid is a bit different with the way it uses bins so, I just want to make sure this set up will work.

July 15, 2012 at 7:26 amShould work, but you should consider going to a service point and ask them to update your HD to a 7200 or an SSD. Response of the entire system will be faster.

July 15, 2012 at 3:01 pmI don’t think I’m disagreeing. Added the option of having the internal drive replaced.
