“The newest releases” does not necessarily imply “new releases”. “And more” suggests products beyond the ones mentioned.

At a certain point in the forseeable future, it is likely that there will (again) be an MC 4.x. Since v3 Symphony software has had the same numbering. I would expect Symphony 4.x to be launched at the same time as MC 4.x.

But the folks who actually know this stuff, are likely not going to be legally allowed to discuss the matter in any way.

Best thing about such applications is that you can put a clone of a perfectly working install of your C-drive on the shelf. If something goes wrong, you can simply put in the cloned drive of the functional system and continue working (OK, you need a backup of your project files from the C-drive, but you should have those anyway).

Also, I use this method when I’m upgrading. I had 3.1.1 installed, had a clone of the system drive, then installed 3.5.4. If there’s an issue with 3.5.4, I’m back to 3.1.1 real fast.

You would not have to reinstall. You can use a disk cloning application like Norton Ghost or Casper, then replace the HD with the new (larger) clone.

“The best way” is a subjective matter.

If you have a fairly small sequence (<20 mins), do an AAF export and choose to consolidate and embed the media. The result is a single (large) file containing the edit and the media. Your PT editor needs to have the DigiTranslator option installed (part of the DV Toolkit, a.o.). With that, he can import that file into a PT session, and all your cuts and media will be translated into something PT can handle.

If your sequences are larger, it can be wiser to copy all audio media from your mediafiles folders onto a portable drive, export your sequence as AAF and choose to "link to existing" media. The result is a file that only carries your edit, not the media. PT can link to the (copy of the) original media you supply.
