OMF / MXF player anyone?
Posted by Alan Howard on July 13, 2009 at 11:55 amHi chaps …
am using a work laptop with avid on board .. it seems that former editors here have put several projects on an external drive … and helpfully dig’ed media onto the c drive ….. I now have a c drive stuffed full and no way of seeing what this media is ….Any clues on downloadable OMF / MXF players ?
Thanks in advance
Alan

July 14, 2009 at 5:50 pmYou could try to use MediaSift and/or MDV. They won’t play the media, but they will show the media’s project association, so you will know which media belongs to which project.
Other than that, MC Soft is a great player for OMF/MXF files 😉 -

July 15, 2009 at 3:35 pmThanks for suggestions guys …
can’t find out too much about MC Soft …. presuming its a Media Composer lite type of programme?
VLC has the odd habit of playing some OMF files perfectly well .. the majority tho, it’ll play for a frame or two and then minimise as if it’s an audio track I’m trying to play …. media tool, “frame view” gives me a series of static black frames .. if there’s a play button there I can’t find it….Think I’m gonna bite the bullet and delete these media files from the C drive … even if I can identify what they are, is there a way of linking them to a new project?

July 15, 2009 at 3:46 pmYou should consider copying the entire folder structure to a suitable external media drive. Then you could delete from C Drive and try to relink to new media drive.
There is no MC lite, only Avid DV, Xpress Pro, and MC (and briefly FreeDV).

July 16, 2009 at 1:27 am“MC Soft” is just an abbreviation for Avid Media Composer with no Adrenaline/Mojo/Nitris/DX acceleration M(edia) C(omposer) Soft(ware only). From the sound of it you already have that.
If you’re on Windows or Wine, you could try these guys out:
